| Question: When is the best time of year to charter Magic? |
|
|
Most of the sea birds who visit the Pembrokeshire coast (puffins, razorbills, guillemots, shearwaters) breed between the months of March and July.
Once the first wave of birds have left their breeding colonies, towards the end of July, then focus may be switched to what's been going on at Grassholm Island with the gannets, the bulk of whom remain there from March until October.
From late August onwards, the seals (who are present around Skomer and Ramsey all year round) swim onto the beaches and coves to breed.
These sightings of sea birds and seals may be interspersed year round by observing Risso's dolphins (bottle nose dolphins are more commonly found in Cardigan Bay), and porpoises (especially Ramsey Sound and off the headlands and skerries of Skomer Island). They are more numerous in Pembrokeshire waters from May onwards, when they may be spotted with their calves. Very occasionally orcas, pilot whales, minke and even sunfish and leatherbacked turtles may be spotted, usually out to sea.
Weatherwise, the most comfortable months are those between May and September. Magic has on-board heating to compensate for the colder winter weather, when some special days away from it all can still be captured on the water.

| Question: What sort of clothes and equipment should I bring with me? |
|
|
Layered clothing is the most sensible approach, covering you for all weather conditions.
Deck shoes or trainers are best suited to the teak deck; if you don't have this type of footwear then please avoid high heels or anything with black or leather soles.
For protection from the sun's rays, you may require a hat, sunglasses and cream.
A camera is always a good idea, especially if you have a telephoto lense.
Binoculars enable you to get close up to the birds and wildlife.
All safety equipment is provided on board. |
